Privacy Policy

mesh helps people who are free at the same moment meet up nearby. This page says what the app knows about you, why, who sees it, and how to take it back. It is written to be read.
Who is responsible
mesh is run by the mesh team. For anything about your data, write to admin@meshnow.app.
What we collect
Your account. Your email address, to sign you in. Sign-in is handled by Clerk; a password, if you set one, is kept by Clerk and never reaches us.
Your age. Your date of birth, once, to confirm you are 18 or older. It is stored privately and never shown to anyone.
Your profile. Your first name and your avatar or photo. And, only if you add them: a username, a line about you, your country and city, the languages you speak, your interests, the activities you like, and your Instagram name.
Where you are, roughly. When you go free or look at what is around, the app uses your location rounded to your neighbourhood. We do not store your exact position, and nobody is ever shown where you are as a point on a map.
Places you choose. When you start a mesh, the place you pick for it is stored exactly, because that is where people have to go.
How far you are, if you say so. On the way to a live mesh you can let the group see how far you are. Your phone works out the distance; only the distance, rounded to 50 metres, leaves it. Only that group sees it, it stops when you arrive or turn it off, and it is gone five minutes after your phone last sent one.
What you do in the app. The meshes you start and join, whether you checked in, your show-up record, your friends, thumbs-up you give and receive, votes in polls, and notes you post for friends.
What you write and share. Messages in group chats and direct messages, and photos you send or add to a mesh's album. If you delete a message it disappears for everyone; we keep a private copy for up to 90 days so that a report about it can still be looked at, then it is erased.
Reports and blocks. If you report or block someone, we keep that, and what was reported.
Your device. A notification token so we can alert you, your notification choices, and the app language.
We do not collect your contacts, we do not use advertising identifiers, and there is no advertising or analytics software in the app.
Why we use it
To run mesh: to show you what is happening nearby, bring people together, let you talk to them, alert you when something you joined is on, and keep the community safe. We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Where the law asks for a reason: most of this is needed to provide the service you signed up for; safety and moderation rest on our legitimate interest in keeping people safe; location, notifications and sharing your distance rest on your consent, which you can withdraw in the app or in your iPhone's settings.
Who sees what
- Before a mesh is on, others see how many people are in it, not who. Whoever is hosting it sees who has joined or asked to join.
- Once it is on, the people in it see your first name, your picture and the profile details you chose to add. Your age and country are shown only if you leave those switches on.
- Your friends see when you are free and the notes you post for them.
- Your Instagram name is shown to your friends and to people you are in a live or finished mesh with.
- The map shows where people are free only as patches a few hundred metres across with a head-count. Never a person.
- You decide who can send you message requests, in Privacy & safety.
Who helps us run it
- Supabase stores the database and the photos.
- Clerk handles sign-in.
- Apple delivers notifications, and provides the map and place search.
They process data on our behalf and only to provide their service. Some of them operate outside your country; where data leaves the European Economic Area it is covered by the safeguards the law requires.
How long we keep it
Your account and what is in it stay until you delete your account. A free session ends by itself. Distances disappear within minutes. Copies of deleted messages are erased after 90 days. Reports are kept for as long as they are needed to keep people safe.
Your choices
- Change or remove anything on your profile in Profile › Edit profile.
- Choose who can message you, and see who you blocked, in Profile › Privacy & safety.
- Turn location or notifications off in your iPhone's settings.
- Delete your account in Profile › Account › Delete account. This erases your profile, your history, your messages and your sign-in. It cannot be undone.
If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or somewhere with similar law, you can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to move it elsewhere. Write to admin@meshnow.app. You can complain to your data protection authority if you think we got it wrong.
Age
mesh is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it, and we ask your date of birth to check. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we delete it.
Security
Data travels encrypted. Access to the database is limited by rules that let each person read only what they are allowed to see.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top says when it was last updated.
